Mac Dock pets FAQ
Something else? Write to us or visit support.
Can I put a cat on my Mac Dock?
Yes. Install Dock Pets from the Mac App Store, choose cat or dog, and the pet drawn for you walks out onto your Dock. It walks, sits, naps and grooms on top of the Dock, and your clicks still go straight through to your apps.
How do I get a pet on my Mac Dock?
Download Dock Pets from the Mac App Store and open it. Choose cat or dog, name the pet that was drawn for you, and it walks onto your Dock. More pets can be adopted from the Pets window in the menu bar. No account needed.
Is Dock Pets free?
The app is free, with no ads and no subscription, and it gives you your first pet free: a cat or dog drawn at random for you, some coats rarer than others. Every other pet is a one-time purchase, from $0.99 to $3.99 depending on how rare it is. Making your own pet from a photo is $4.99.
Can I choose my free pet?
You choose cat or dog, and the pet itself is drawn at random from our 13 cats or 47 dogs. Some coats are rarer than others. There's one draw, and it stays the same even if you reinstall the app. Any other pet can be adopted from the Pets window, from $0.99.
Can I turn my own cat or dog into a dock pet?
Yes. Add a photo of your cat or dog in the app and it makes a pixel version with their coat colours and markings. You see it before you pay, and if it's not quite them you can repaint it up to 3 times. If you keep it, it's a one-time purchase of $4.99.
What happens to my photo?
Your photo is used only to make your pet. It's deleted as soon as you keep your pet, and if you don't keep it, within a day.
What if my dock pet doesn't look like my pet?
You see your pet before you pay. If it's not quite them, repaint it up to 3 times or try another photo, and only pay when it looks right.
Can I make a dock pet of a pet I've lost?
Yes. Some people make a dock pet of a cat or dog who has died, so they can keep them close while they work. Take your time choosing the photo; you see the result before you pay, and the repaints are there if the first try doesn't feel right.
Which dogs can I make?
Breeds our pixel artist has drawn: Beagle, Bull Terrier, Chihuahua, Corgi, Miniature Poodle, Papillon, Pug, Afghan Hound, Australian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Bloodhound, Dalmatian, Doberman, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Greyhound, Leonberger, Shiba Inu, Siberian Husky. Close lookalikes such as a Labrador, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler, Boxer work too. The app tells you before you pay if it can't make a good match. Ready-made dogs like Pip, Bean and Kiko can be adopted too.
I have a rabbit, a bird or another animal. Can I have it?
Not yet. Meerkats are being drawn next, and after that we add the animals people ask for most. Request yours on this page and we'll email you when it's ready.
Does it slow down my Mac?
No. Dock Pets uses very little CPU and memory, hides during full-screen apps and can be paused from the menu bar at any time.
Which Macs does it work on?
Any Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia or later, with Apple silicon or Intel.
Does it work with multiple monitors or a Dock on the side?
Your pet lives on your Dock, on whichever display the Dock is on, including a Dock on the left or right.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through the App Store's standard refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com.
